"Autumn Leaves of Humiliation"
Charcoal, oil pastel with baby oil, collage
2014
8th grade art
I make my artwork to express the things I see in the world, and my feelings, and how I wish things were. My feelings are my motivation, and my world and observations are my inspiration . I made my piece with charcoal, wish was used to express evil, baby oil and oil pastel, which was used to express life, love and its flowing , yet gentle, vividness, and collage to describe my observations. We all know that the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and living life is a constant battle: it can be a battle between yourself and an enemy, you against uncontrollable nature, or even you against yourself. This piece reveals all three such battles. The victim is battling with uncontrollable nature, which in her case is cancer; the defender is battling with the bully, as well as with herself, because she is trying to persuade herself to speak up for the victim. What inspired me was "The Fault in our Stars," which deals with cancer, the "Bully" documentary we watched last year, and my own experiences with deciding over whether to speak up for myself or others when someone was being cruel.
